Rector's Welcome

A message of welcome from the Rector, the Revd David Hilliard

You are very welcome to our Website – and to come to our Church.

St Paul’s Church, Diamond Grange is a church in a rural area of County Armagh, in the Diocese of Armagh, in the middle of Northern Ireland. The nearest town is Portadown, 5 miles to the east. The city of Armagh is 10 miles away to the south-west. The Church is situated on Annagora Road in the town-land of Grange Lower. It stands in a quiet rural area. The countryside around the Church is made up of apple orchards and open fields, dotted with dwelling houses. The church was built in 1926 and consecrated in 1927. Prior to 1927, church services took place in the Schoolhouse. This Schoolhouse (beside the Church) was adapted to serve as a Parish Hall in more recent years. The former Rectory is situated nearby, but has not been in use as a rectory since 1919, when the Parish was grouped with Kilmore. This arrangement was dissolved in 1979, when Diamond was grouped with Tartaraghan, and Kilmore with St Saviour’s Parish.

Today, we are a living congregation in the Diocese of Armagh, which is one of 12 Dioceses of the Church of Ireland, itself part of the world-wide Anglican Communion made up of over 70 million people throughout the world. There are approximately 50 families in the Parish of Diamond Grange, most of these live in the rural area surrounding the church. Services are at 10.00am each Sunday. The Book of Common Prayer (2004) and the new Church Hymnal (5th edition) are in use. We hope that you enjoy this Website and that we may see you in the Diamond Grange where together, in the spirit of St Paul, we rejoice in the Lord always.

Diamond Grange Parish has had a long association for many years with CMS, the Church Missionary Society (Ireland). At present, we support the work of CMS in Kajiado Diocese, Kenya.

Church records have survived as follows:
Baptisms from 1877 and Marriages from 1910.

THE RECTOR:
The present Rector is the Revd David Hilliard B.Th. He was ordained Deacon in 1991 for the Parish of St Philip & St James, Holywood, Co. Down, and priested in 1992. He served in Holywood until 1994, when he became Curate Assistant in St Gobhan’s Parish, Seagoe, Portadown, Co. Armagh. He was instituted as Rector of the Parishes of Tartaraghan & Diamond in 1996. He lives in Tartaraghan Rectory, Tarthlogue Road, approximately three miles from St Paul’s Church, Diamond Grange. He is married to Louise and they have one child, Jonathan.
